English - German - Russian Dictionary
English-German-Russian terms dictionary is the part of ABOK standards set and include translation of terms and definitions the most often used in ISO standards 16484 "Building Automation and Control Systems", which are developed by ISO (ISO, http://www.iso.org) experts and CEN (http://www.cenorm.be) experts. ABOK committee "Intelligent Buildings" has been developing the set of national standards for Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS). This set of standards will establish common understanding and specification of BACS functionalities. In 2002 ABOK specialists began to represent Russian Federation in ISO TC 205 work by the approval of Gosstroy.
English-German-Russian terms dictionary consists of 4 parts:
Authors of this dictionary used experience of their colleagues in ISO and CEN, who had noticed in their work all existing standards and definitions concerning BACS terminology. Mr. Hans R. Kranz (Member of the VDI TGA Executive Council and Advisory Board Projectleader EN ISO 16484), who was the leader of this mutual work, checked out every term and acronym used in text and helped Russian specialists to gather all knowledge and experience of International Organization for Standardization in the field of building automation.
ABOK committee "Intelligent Buildings" has translated from English and German, edited and adopted BACS terms to Russian professional terminology and to ISO/CEN terms. During all this work ABOK committee had close interconnection with Mr. Hans R. Kranz and Mr. Martin Bismark (Sauter Building Control International GmbH, Freiburg, Germany), who helped us greatly with corrections of English and German part of the dictionary. The coordination work with Russian and foreign participants was held by ABOK vice President Marianna Brodatch.
Therefore, this dictionary is the result of hard work of many specialists in the world!

The trade of Building Automation and Control has evolved to a co-coordinating focal point for all technical building services. All necessary information required for the overall functioning of a building in its whole are being combined in a BACS (Building Automation and Control Systems). The gaining functionality, interconnection and integration depth of services requires extraordinary know-how of employees in the BACS trade. Their competence is becoming a more and more important factor - perhaps the decisive one in the daily struggle of competition.
This key position of systems and people in the functional interaction of building services needs a common language and understanding of all participating in design, planning, construction and operation - as "acknowledged rules of technology" (standards and guidelines) - as far as possible on a broad international basis.
To focus this knowledge to the benefit of public at large, the building automation experts of many countries found together and initialized a concerted action. The goal was the creation of unique criteria for the BACS market. Primarily that have been common terms and definitions, described engineering services and unified construction contract procedures, but also the reduction of the variety of communication protocols. Prerequisite for a successful work is the consensus of the trade itself and, where necessary, the balancing of interests with the lead organizations of the partners in marketplace. In international projects this have been consortia and committees from ASHRAE (USA), BSRIA (United Kingdom), SiA (Switzerland), JRAIA (Japan), VDI and VDMA (Association of Engineers, Machinery and Plant Manufacturers Association, Germany), as well as the experts from standardization organizations as CEN/CENELEC and ISO/IEC. From 2002 the experts from ABOK in Russia also bring in their outstanding store of knowledge to the common efforts.
As initiator, chair and project leader of some committees I am very happy about the last point. I wish that this ABOK glossary for BACS will start up a new era of peaceful global co-operation and promote a fair competition.
